The OPCW Director-General Fernando Arias and Ambassador Thomas Schieb signed an agreement on 3 December 2024 on a voluntary contribution by Germany to the OPCW's activities in Ukraine.
The OPCW Technical Secretariat has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine since the expansion of the war in February 2022 in connection with the alleged use of toxic chemicals. The contribution of 500,000 Euro will be paid into a trust fund for the Ukraine Assistance and Protection programme. It provides inter alia training for Ukrainian first responders and specialists in the identification of chemical warfare agents.
